Episode #13 – Creativity Abounds with Amy Price

I am so excited this week to share with you a conversation I had with my cousin Amy Price. Amy is one of the most creative people I know, and today she’s sharing her story of how she came to work on Broadway, the pivots she’s taken since COVID-19 entered the picture (here’s a hint, her thriving Etsy store is the result of a desire to protect the people in her community and grew wildly from there), what creative pursuits she’s currently leaning into, and what to do if you find yourself in a creative rut.

Most of all though, through this conversation I learned the importance of being open to new possibilities and that when they’re unfolding around you, you must take action.

So grab a cup of coffee, and let’s jump right in!

Meet Amy!

I’m thrilled this week to share with you a conversation with Amy Price, an artist living in New York City, who shares her story of resilience and creativity. Amy’s worked on Broadway for eight years, and when the shutdown began in March she pivoted to making face masks to keep her community safe. Jump to present-day and she’s sold thousands of masks and continues to run her thriving Etsy store from her Brooklyn apartment.

Recently Amy’s specialized in polymer clay jewelry, which in my entirely biased opinion, is absolutely stunning! My husband, just today actually, gifted me with a pair of Amy’s earrings (best surprise, ever!), and I cannot wait to wear them. They’re the most beautiful turquoise, which we all know is my favorite color, and they’ll make any outfit more fun and stylish. I’ll be sure to share how they look on my Instagram later this week @livebydesignpodcast!

I hope today’s conversation leaves you feeling encouraged to try something new and get creative, without the pressure of being perfect and instead simply for the joy of the act of creating itself.

Joyful Corner

This week I’m grateful for a small pocket of time completely to myself. Since this spring, my personal alone time has been limited, and I do cherish solitude. So when I had the chance to get a delicious cup of coffee, go for a drive, and listen to one of my personal favorite podcasts (A Beautiful Mess Podcast) all by myself…I jumped right on it.

If you’re not familiar with their podcast, here’s an excerpt from the A Beautiful Mess welcome page! I always listen to their episodes when I need a little pick-me-up. Their conversations are from the heart, resonate with what’s going on in my own life, and they’re just the dose of joy I need when I feel the weight of the season we’re currently in.

“We are sister team, Elsie Larson and Emma Chapman, and along with our small team, we write A Beautiful Mess. Our blog was founded in 2007 (you know, when MySpace was still a thing.) Our mission statement is to help you stay home and make something! We grew up homebodies who love to craft, cook, and decorate our space, and that’s exactly the kind of posts you can expect to find on the A Beautiful Mess blog.”

And a big thank you this week to Amy for sharing what’s brought her joy recently. Amy shares how she’s befriended fellow park-goers at Prospect Park in the past few years, and that they all enjoyed quarantining together on vacation recently. As a fellow dog-owner, I too can attest to the strength of relationships that are forged over a shared love for man’s best friend!

Isn’t Amy’s dog, Bernie, the cutest?!
