Many of us strive to find something that lights us up inside, that makes us feel alive, and that creates peace and joy in our lives.
Today’s podcast guest, Nick Cruz Velleman, has discovered how creativity brings him to life, and on the podcast he shares with us:
- How art brings all of his energy and attention into the present moment
- How he uses creativity to center himself
- How you can access creative mindfulness within yourself
- And the reminder to discover and return to your why when things get tough
And you don’t want to miss when I ask Nick where he sees himself in 10 years. I’ll give you a hint! Listen in as Nick shares how he hopes to use the power of art to teach non-judgement, self-acceptance, and acceptance to society as a whole. How powerful is that?!
So friends, pop in your earbuds and settle in as Nick and I talk about the power of art, the importance of uncovering your “why,” and how he pursues non-judgement and self-acceptance through the practice of mindful creativity.
Meet Nick Cruz Velleman
Nick is a Peruvian / Filipino-American artist who I was lucky enough to meet in Aix-en-Provence, France where we studied together at The Marchutz School of Fine Arts back in 2009. Since then, Nick has gone on to earn his M.F.A from the Marchutz School of Fine Arts in 2020.
“I aspire to a career of teaching art, creativity, and the mindfulness it can yield…while traveling the world and painting, of course.”
Nick recently published a book, Book of Sight and Insight which can be found here. Nick’s book is a collection of selected artwork from 2018-2020 and an essay he wrote in France while living in lockdown during the pandemic. In his book he gives an innovative look into non-judgement and self-acceptance. Nick has also given us a discount for 20% off his book of Book of Sight and Insight! The discount is good from now through 11/27/2021. Use code 20offprints.

Joyful Corner
This week I’m grateful for my dear friend, branding photographer, and health coaching client Brittany Frish. You may remember her from one of my most popular episodes Client Spotlight: Conquering Big Goals with Brittany Frish.
Britt gifted me a book, If These Wings Could Fly by Kyrie McCauley. While I LOVE books about personal development, running, health, and so on…this young adult book of fiction was exactly the fun, entertaining, and easy-to-read piece I wanted for before bed.
This book ticked all the boxes! It touches on heavy and light topics but does so in a really balanced way. I could see a lot of myself in the protagonist, and it was so good I kept telling myself one more chapter and then I’d click off the light (over and over again, ha!). I couldn’t put it down!
If you’d like to dig into the small town of Auburn, PA, meet Leighton Barnes, and discover why tens of thousands of crows are invading her town then you can grab your copy of If These Wings Could Fly here. And friend, in all transparency, this is an affiliate link. That means I receive a very small financial kickback from your purchase which I invest right back into the production of The Live By Design Podcast.
